Pro Staff Bios

Kathy Woods

Tennis Director

Kathy relocated from Westport, CT to join the Racquet Club in 2004. With more than two decades as an on-court teaching professional working with all ages and levels of tennis players. Over the years, she has directed tennis programs in clubs and communities including Westport [1999-2004], Key Biscayne, FL [1992-1999], and Princeton, NJ [1984-1992].

From 1994-1996, Kathy served as the first and only woman President of the United States Professional Teaching Association - the largest certifying tennis teaching organization in the U.S.

Previous notable experience includes employment by the Tennis Industry Association, consultant to tennis clubs in programming and staff training, and celebrity-pro for corporate tennis entertainment. She has been a featured speaker for the International Tennis Federation, the Japanese Professional Tennis Association and the USTA National Tennis Teachers Conference.

In 1996, Kathy was honored by the International Tennis Hall of Fame with the prestigious Educational Merit Award for outstanding service to tennis.

As a competitive player, she was the 1993 winner of the USTA National 30's Doubles Championships and has been ranked #1 nationally by USPTA in singles and doubles. She played varsity tennis and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania.

Patrick Derr

Staff Professional and
Junior Development Coordinator

Patrick is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Kent State University and played four years at #1 singles earning his degree in speech/communications in 1995. Patrick is USPTA certified. As a high school coach, his Lancaster Catholic High School team was undefeated and state champions. Before relocating to St. Pete, Patrick was the Head Professional of the Princeton Tennis Program in NJ. He instructed thousands of children and adults with a consistent mix of fun, technique, and strategy.

Peter Keber

Staff Professional

Originally from the Washington D.C. - Metropolitan area, Peter attended St. Mary's Public Honors College in Maryland where he not only played #2 Singles and #1 Doubles, but also raced keelboats and played lacrosse. Peter moved to St. Petersburg in 1995 and earned a degree in Business Administration from Eckerd College with a focus on sport organizations and player development.

Peter is PTR certified with a Professional rating. He has various experience in junior development programs and joined The Racquet Club staff in 2004.

Rich Terrell

Staff Professional

Originally from St. Petersburg, Rich graduated from St. Petersburg Junior College with a diploma in Business Administration.

He was ranked the number 2 player in Florida in the Men's Open division in 1985, and toured Europe, Scandinavia, and the United States playing on the satellite tour.

Rich has taught tennis for over 25 years with experience working with top 20 - 100 ATP and WTA Touring Pros. He was formerly the Director at the St. Petersburg Tennis Center and has tremendous experience running Junior Development Programs.
